App Store & Google Play screenshot sizes (2026)

Apple lists sizes for 14 iPhone and iPad displays and Google Play has its own limits, but you only need a few files to publish. Here's the short answer, every exact size, and the mistakes that get screenshots bounced. All taken from the two official pages, linked at the bottom.

The minimum set to publish

Short answer
iPhone · required
1179×2556 or 1206×2622 px
iPad · if your app runs on iPad
2064×2752 or 2048×2732 px
Google Play phone · at least 2
1080×1920 px or larger at 9:16
Play feature graphic · required
exactly 1024×500 px

JPEG or PNG, no alpha channel, on both stores. Up to 10 per size on Apple, up to 8 per device type on Play. iPhone screenshots are too tall for Play, so make a separate set.

App Store screenshot sizes

Required: at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), and, if your app runs on iPad, at least one for the iPad 13" display. Those are the only two sizes on Apple's required list.

Scaling: if your interface looks the same across sizes, Apple says you only need the highest required resolution. App Store Connect scales it down for smaller devices.

Landscape is the same size rotated, except on the oldest displays, where Apple lists landscape sizes separately (shown in the table).

Google Play screenshot rules

Play doesn't have fixed sizes like Apple. It has limits. Inside them, 1080×1920 portrait is the safe choice: it passes every limit and counts toward Play's large featured formats.

Google Play graphic asset requirements
AssetSizeRules
Phone screenshots320–3,840 px per sideLong side ≤ 2× short side. At least 2 in total to publish, up to 8 per device type. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
Featured-format eligibility (apps)≥ 1080×1920 (9:16) or ≥ 1920×1080 (16:9)At least 4 screenshots. Google lists this as a requirement for appearing in formats that use screenshots, not for publishing.
Tablet and Chromebook1,080–7,680 px16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait, at least 4.
Feature graphic1024×500 exactlyRequired to publish. JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
App icon512×51232-bit PNG; alpha is allowed here. Up to 1,024 KB.

Google also recommends keeping taglines under 20% of the image and avoiding words like "Best", "#1", "Top" or "New" and calls to action like "Download now". Wear OS, Android TV, Android Automotive and Android XR have separate rules on Google's page.

Why screenshots get bounced

Each one maps to a rule on Apple's or Google's page. The size checker tests your files for all of them in the browser, without uploading anything.

  1. No screenshot at the required iPhone size

To submit, Apple needs at least one screenshot for “iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)”: 1179×2556 or 1206×2622 portrait (or rotated for landscape).

Fix: Export at 1206×2622. Sets made for older or larger iPhones don't fill this slot.

    Source: Apple

  2. An iPad app with no 13-inch set

If your app runs on iPad, Apple requires at least one screenshot for the iPad 13" display: 2064×2752 or 2048×2732.

Fix: Check whether iPad is in your app's supported devices (cross-platform templates sometimes include it). If it is, export iPad screenshots at 2064×2752.

    Source: Apple

  3. A size Apple doesn't list

Apple publishes exact pixel sizes per display. A screenshot that's resized, cropped or scaled by a few pixels doesn't match any of them.

Fix: Export at one of the exact sizes in the App Store tables above. Don't let a design tool or a chat app recompress or resize the file on the way.

    Source: Apple

  4. An alpha channel, even a fully opaque one

Apple: images can't include alpha channels or transparency. Google Play: JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.

Fix: Some design tools export 32-bit PNGs even when nothing is transparent. Export as JPEG, or as PNG without alpha. The size checker can flatten a file for you.

  5. Wrong file type

Apple accepts .jpeg, .jpg and .png. Google Play accepts JPEG and 24-bit PNG.

Fix: Convert HEIC, WebP or GIF files before uploading.

  6. Reusing iPhone screenshots on Google Play

Play says the long side can't be more than 2× the short side. Current iPhone sizes such as 1260×2736 and 1290×2796 are about 2.17:1.

Fix: Make a separate Play set. 1080×1920 (9:16) passes and also counts toward Play's featured formats. Raw captures from tall Android phones (e.g. 1080×2400, 2.22:1) break the same rule.

    Source: Google

  7. Too small or too big for Play

Every side must be between 320 and 3,840 px. Tablet and Chromebook screenshots: 1,080–7,680 px.

Fix: Downscale anything over 3,840 px on a side, such as a high-resolution export from a design tool.

    Source: Google

  8. Too few, or too many

Apple: at least one, up to 10 per display size. Play: at least 2 in total, up to 8 per device type, and a 1024×500 feature graphic to publish.

Fix: On Apple, count per display size; on Play, per device type (phone, tablet, and so on).

Questions

What size are App Store screenshots in 2026?
The one iPhone size Apple requires is “iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)”: 1179×2556 or 1206×2622 px portrait. If your app runs on iPad, you also need the 13-inch iPad size: 2064×2752 or 2048×2732 px. Those are the only two on Apple's list of required sizes. Up to 10 screenshots per size, JPEG or PNG, no alpha.
Do I need screenshots for every iPhone size?
No. Apple says that if your app's interface is the same across device sizes, you only need screenshots for the highest required resolution, and App Store Connect scales them down for smaller devices. You can still upload a set tailored to a specific size if you want.
What size are Google Play screenshots?
Any size from 320 to 3,840 px per side, with the long side at most 2× the short side, JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha. To be eligible for Play's large featured formats, apps need at least 4 screenshots at 9:16 (1080×1920 or larger) or 16:9 (1920×1080 or larger).
Can I use my App Store screenshots on Google Play?
Usually not as they are. Current iPhone sizes like 1206×2622 are about 2.17:1, which breaks Play's 2:1 limit. Re-export the same designs at 1080×1920.
Do I need iPhone Duo screenshots?
Not yet. Apple says they'll be required starting April 2027 for apps using the iOS 27.1 SDK or later. Sizes: 1398×2034 (outer display) and 2007×2853 (inner display). Apple also says submitting them adds a badge to your product page letting people know the app is optimized for iPhone Duo.
Why won't App Store Connect accept my PNG?
Check two things first. An alpha channel: Apple doesn't allow alpha channels or transparency in screenshots, and some tools add one even when no pixel is transparent, so re-export as JPEG or as a PNG without alpha. And the size: it has to match one of the exact pixel sizes Apple lists.
